Penngrove
Located just about 2 miles north of Petaluma, and before Cotati, Penngrove rests at the bottom of Sonoma Mountain. The name derives from a grove (some say Oak groves, others say Olives) it was used as a northbay rail freight station for Northwestern Pacific Railroad. Sadly, the Penngrove Rail Station, built around the turn of the century, burned to the ground in 1980 and no part of it survived.
It's downtown is located on Main Street, a small stretch of road between Old Redwood Highway and Adobe Road. Set on a rural stretch of the Old Redwood Highway, there are about 4,000 people that live in Penngrove. Originally the town was set up as another "egg city", much like its neighbor Petaluma, and to this day many dilapidated chicken houses dot the countryside.
With an easy commute to Petaluma, Santa Rosa, San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area, Penngrove offers the best of Sonoma County. Close to the many wineries that Sonoma County is famous for and the commerce of the bigger cities, Penngrove is a wonderful town to call home.
Peg King & Associates specialize in Penngrove and have been selling property here for over 30 years. Call us for more information or a personalized tour of this 150 year old town!
