9 miles north of historic Petaluma and 47 miles from San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, Cotati is a fantastic launching point to all of the Bay Area. Primarily a residential community, Cotati is sustained by agriculture and local businesses. Once a destination for tourists with hotels & entertainment, Cotati was home to alternative music and attracted those seeking that lifestyle in the 20th century. Music is a large part of the community still, with live music at different venues almost every weekend.
With over 8,000 people living in Cotati, Cotati's unique hexagonal plaza and street grid plan, was designed in the 1890's by Newton Smyth. A perfect plaza for community activities, the locals and tourists flock here for relaxation and entertainment on the weekends.
